 Barney Farms History
In 1948 Newell and Katherine Barney and their family turned raw desert into a thriving farm. In the 1990's, they began looking at opportunities to develop the farm. Early attempts were made to market to industrial users. However, by the 2000's, based on market studies, it became clear that Queen Creek and the Barney Farm had way too much industrial land planned and that conversion of some of the farm to residential would be the right thing to do. That began a General Plan Amendment (GPA) and rezoning process in 2004 that continues to this day. |
